The Carroll County General Health District (CCGHD) has a real estate transfer program that requires the sewage treatment system of residential homes to be inspected before the sale transfers. These inspections are required to be conducted by an Environmental Health Specialist (EHS) of the CCGHD. Water sampling of a private water system, such as a well, is not required to be done at the time of a real estate transfer but is highly recommended. The CCGHD provides water sampling services for bacteria testing, lead, nitrates, and nitrites.
During these inspections the sewage treatment system and household plumbing is dye tested and a certain amount of water (determined by the number of bedrooms of the home) is dosed through the system at a constant flow rate.
