Public Health Preparedness
Since the terrorist attacks on the United States on 9/11, public health has received federal funding across the nation to assist local health departments and our communities with planning and preparing for emergencies. An assessment of local public health capabilities to respond to public health emergencies in 2011 was minimal. Since then, funding and planning efforts have provided skills and resources to build public health capabilities within our department.
Today, our public health plans account for all hazards that may create emergencies in our communities. This could be chemical spills, release of hazards in the air from fire and/or explosions, or the aftermath of severe flooding on the health of our residents.
The planning for responding to emergencies has allowed us to build strong relationships with our emergency response partners in Carroll County. We also work to help our community to be personally prepared, at work and at home.
